5 fitness and health resolutions you must make NOW
We list the five essential resolutions you must make in order to lead a long and healthy life.
Good health is indeed one’s true wealth. All the money in the bank or the spate of properties one owns are to no avail if one is ill and riddled with many diseases. Maintaining fitness at every stage of life is important so as to enjoy our time with our loved ones. When embarking on your fitness journey, do make these resolutions:
1 Exercise every day. Exercise is the panacea to many ills. Everyone can exercise, and they should! Daily exercise in some form — from brisk walking to dancing — helps control weight, burn calories and energise the body. The body’s systems improve, and so does waste and toxin removal. Soon, you are fitter and better able to resist illness and diseases.
2 Sleep enough. Not getting enough sleep is the prime reason for unexplained weight gain, lack of concentration, headaches, nausea and even such ailments as high blood pressure and diabetes. A good night’s sleep rests and heals the body, and prepares it for the next day’s rigours. Sleeping for at least six hours every night helps digestion, toxin removal, blood and lymphatic circulation and improves overall health.
3 Eat nutritious meals. It is rightly said that abs are not made in the gym, but in the kitchen. You are truly what you eat — so if you eat balanced, nutritious foods your body will respond by being healthier and fitter. Include as many seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet as possible. These help the metabolic, circulatory and waste processes, and supply essential nutrients and calories for daily functioning. Cut out processed sugar, excess oil and salt, and also junk food from your diet to see the difference in your overall fitness.
4 Drink a lot of water. Water is an essential commodity in our lives. Without it, we would fall ill very often. Aim to drink at least one litre of water every, gradually increasing your intake to two litres. Water has a variety of uses — it improves blood circulation and toxin removal, skin and hair health, digestion and metabolism. It also relieves muscle spasms and aches, and helps the internal organs function optimally.
5 Get health insurance. Along with aiming for a good diet and exercise regimen to increase fitness, one must also be cognisant of the fact that they may face an illness in the future. They may need to get treatment and undergo hospitalisation for an injury or disease, and this will cost them a lot of money. So, it is prudent to buy a good health insurance plan that safeguards one against the future costs of medical care. One may take an individual health insurance plan or a family floater plan.
